Fireball Tank

This pattern will create a cropped tank top featuring the fireball logo. The chart provided will create a size XL tank top that measures approximately 17 inches in width (laid flat) and 17 inches in length.

You will need to know the following techniques:

  • Color Change

  • SC increase

  • SC decrease

  • Whip stitch (to sew panels together)


GAUGE


19 stitches and 9 rows of double crochet using a 4.5 mm hook = 4”x 4” swatch



MATERIALS

YARN

You will need weight 4 (worsted) yarn in the following colors:


Yellow [color 1]

Red [color 2]

Black [color 3]


HOOKS

4.5 mm

  • Tapestry Needle

PATTERN NOTES

  • This pattern uses US crochet terms

  • CH 1 at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch

  • The pattern is in columns from left to right

  • Intarsia and fair isle are the recommended color change methods


READING A CHART

This pattern is created with columns rather than rows. the columns should be read from left to right, starting with the bottom left corner.


FRONT PANEL


To create the front panel, you will follow the color chart below. Each square represents one single crochet. The grey squares do not represent any single crochets. These are blank spaces. A PDF version of the chart can be downloaded below.

Foundation (R0): Using [color 1] and a 4.5 mm hook, CH 38

R1: In the second chain from the hook, SC 1 in the back bump. SC 1 in the back bump of each chain, changing colors where indicated by the chart below.

R2: CH 1 and turn. SC 1 in each stitch, changing colors where indicated by the chart below.

R3 - R5: Repeat the steps from R2

R6: CH 3 and turn. Starting in the second chain from the hook, SC 1 in the back bump of the next two chains. Then SC 1 in each remaining stitch on the row, changing colors where indicated by the chart below.

R7: CH 1 and turn. SC 1 in each stitch, changing colors where indicated by the chart below, until there are two stitches remaining. SC 2 in each of the remaining stitches.

R8 - R11: Repeat the steps from R6 and R7

R12: CH 1 and turn. SC 1 in each stitch, changing colors where indicated by the chart below. When you reach the final stitch in the row, CH 20.

R13: Starting in the second chain from the hook, SC 1 in the back bump of the next 19 chains. Then SC 1 in each remaining stitch on the row, changing colors where indicated by the chart below.

R14: CH 1 and turn. SC 1 in each stitch, changing colors where indicated by the chart below.

R15 - R18: Repeat the steps from R14

R19: CH 1 and turn. SC 1 in each stitch, changing colors where indicated by the chart below. Stop once you have reached the 57th stitch.

R20: CH 1and turn. DEC 1. SC 1 in each remaining stitch, changing colors where indicated by the chart below.

R21 - R22: CH 1 and turn. SC 1 in each stitch, changing colors where indicated by the chart below.

R23: CH 1 and turn. SC 1 in each stitch, changing colors where indicated by the chart below.

R24 - R52: Repeat the steps from R23

R53: CH 1 and turn. SC 1 in each stitch, changing colors where indicated by the chart below. Stop when you have 1 stitch remaining. INC in the final stitch.

R54 - R55: CH 1 and turn. SC 1 in each stitch, changing colors where indicated by the chart below.

R56: CH 1 and turn. SC 1 in each stitch, changing colors where indicated by the chart below. Stop when you have 1 stitch remaining. INC in the final stitch. When you reach the final stitch in the row, CH 14.

R57: CH 1 and turn. SC 1 in each stitch, changing colors where indicated by the chart below.

R58 - R62: Repeat the steps from R23

R63: CH 1 and turn. SC 1 in each stitch, changing colors where indicated by the chart below. Stop once you have reached the 51st stitch.

R64: CH 1 and turn. DEC in the first two stitches. SC 1 in each remaining stitch, changing colors where indicated by the chart below.

R65: CH 1 and turn. SC 1 in every stitch, stopping when you have four stitches remaining. DEC 2.

R66 - R70: Repeat the steps from R64 and R65

R71: CH 1 and turn. SC 1 in each stitch, changing colors where indicated by the chart below.

R72 - R74: Repeat the seps from R71.

Cut and tie off yarn



BACK PANEL


Foundation: Using a contrasting color yarn [color 2 or color 3] and a 4.5 mm hook, CH 38

  1. SC 1 in the second stitch from the hook. SC 1 in the back bump of every remaining stitch

  2. Follow the steps from the front panel, excluding the color changes, to create a solid color panel that is the same size as the front panel

  3. Cut and tie off yarn



ASSEMBLY

  1. With right sides of the front and back panel together, whip stitch along both shoulders and both side seams to attach the panels.

  2. Flip your work right side out
