BLOCKING

For a clean final look with even stitches, blocking your piece is recommended before seaming the two panels together. For acrylic fibers, steam blocking is recommended. For natural fibers (cotton, wool, etc.) wet blocking is recommended.

WRIST STRAP (optional)

R0: Using a 4.0mm hook and your main yarn color, CH 61

R1: SC into the back bump of the second chain from the hook. Then SC into the back bump of every remaining chain (60)

R2: CH1 and turn. SC in every stitch Cut and tie off, leaving a long tail (60)

Strap Assembly:

  1. Place both ends of the strap side by side as shown in the photos

  2. Sew approximately 1 inch of the ends together (~5 stitches)

  3. Loop the ends through the lobster swivel clasp as shown

  4. Fold over approximately 1/2 inch of the end through the clasp, and sew the ends down to attach

STRAP LOOP (optional)

If you are not adding a wrist strap to your pouch, skip this step.

R0: Using a 4.0mm hook and your main yarn color, CH 11

R1: SC into the back bump of the second chain from the hook. Then SC into the back bump of every remaining chain. Cut and leave a long tail (10)

SEAMING

If you plan to block your panels, do this before seaming.

Sandwich the strap loop between the two panels with the right sides facing each other. Using a whip stitch, sew the two panels together around 3 sides. Be sure to sew through both panels and both layers of the strap loop. The the loop should be facing the inside (right side) of the bag while you are seaming. Leave the long edge of the pouch open. This is where you will install the zipper.

Flip the work right side out.

INSTALLING THE ZIPPER

  1. Pin the zipper to one side of the bag’s opening

  2. Using a needle and thread, sew zipper to the first side using back stitch (be sure not to stretch out the crochet as you do this)

  3. Open the zipper, and pin the other side of it to the other side of the bag’s opening

  4. Once happy with the zipper placement, sew the zipper to the second side of the bag
