BLOCKING

For a clean final look with even stitches, blocking your piece is recommended before seaming the two panels together. For acrylic fibers, steam blocking is recommended. For natural fibers (cotton, wool, etc.) wet blocking is recommended.

SEAMING THE PANELS TOGETHER

  1. Add a stitch marker on either side of the front panel between Row 3 and Row 4. These stitch markers will mark the opening for the zipper on the bottom of the pouch.

  2. Place the panels together with the wrong sides facing each other.

  3. Using a tapestry needle and the medium brown yarn, sew the two panels together with a whip stitch, leaving an opening between the two stitch markers.

INSTALLING THE ZIPPER

  1. Pin the zipper to one side of the bag’s opening

  2. Using a needle and thread, sew zipper to the first side using back stitch (be sure not to stretch out the crochet as you do this)

  3. Open the zipper, and pin the other side of it to the other side of the bag’s opening

  4. Once happy with the zipper placement, sew the zipper to the second side of the bag

Refer to this tutorial for more in depth instructions.

ADDING A LINING (optional)

  1. Using your lining fabric, cut two circles that are approximately 8 inches in diameter.

  2. With the right sides facing together, sew the two panels together, leaving an opening that is approximately 6 inches across.

  3. Line up the opening of the lining with the zipper, and sew them together using your preferred stitch.
